How should I equip myself as a biker?
This is the big question that every motorbike rider asks himself when he thinks about going on a trip. In this sense, we venture to say that 99.99% of bikers are clear that jackets, trousers and helmets must be purchased for specific motorbike use and, of course, must be homologated. However, the rest of the equipment is quite different.
From our long experience in the motorcycling industry, almost 20 years, we know that a percentage of motorcyclists wear clothing that simply keeps out the cold, without taking into account the possible consequences of wearing snow or outdoor clothing on a motorbike. Every day you can see motorcyclists using snow gloves and/or urban boots in the cities and on the roads, without being fully aware that this type of clothing lacks approved protection in the event of a fall on the asphalt. We know that this is not a very high percentage, but we all know or have seen more than one of us equipped in this way.
The same thing happens when we go to select the thermal clothing to use in your motorbike routes or motorbike trips. Due to lack of knowledge, mistakes, bad advice or haste when purchasing the product, a large number of motorbike users end up buying clothing for Outdoor, Running, Cycling, Mountain, etc., in large general sports stores or even food or big brands known for these sports.
What do we advise? Equip yourself with specific motorbike clothing, whether it's our brand or another one. We will tell you why below:
Brands specialising in outdoor clothing are manufactured with medium or high physical intensity in mind, with very continuous and repetitive movement, prioritising the lightness of the fabric. This results in lower thermal properties and maximum breathability. In addition, the construction of the garments dedicated to each sport has differentiated specifications and R&D. The movements that can be made while running are not the same as in cycling or mountaineering. Therefore, the garments designed for these sports have different breathability characteristics in each area and mobility to avoid chafing with different fabrics and even with lower thicknesses of material that are totally different in the practice of motorcycling, your motorbike routes or motorbike trips.
For that motorbike trip I have organised in winter, what equipment should I buy?
On your routes or on different types of motorcycle trips, there are long moments of minimal activity and mobility at low temperatures, rain, humidity, air, snow, etc., which usually occur when driving on motorways or highways, or even on roads where the long straights take precedence over the curves that we like so much. When standing completely still on the motorbike with minimal throttle, brake or similar movements. In these situations, the body does not generate the same body heat and perspiration as in outdoor activities, so the needs are totally different.
In the practice of motorcycling, products with greater thickness of fabric are needed to guarantee in the second skin, a correct transpiration but above all, better properties and thermal protection to help the body to avoid the loss of body heat to the maximum. these same garments, must have the same perspiration zones that in Outdoor but of smaller size and without reducing to the maximum the thickness, it is not necessary and it avoids with it a loss of heat totally necessary to delay to the maximum the sensation of cold.
We have also used our thermal clothing in outdoor activities such as running and mountaineering to assess its effectiveness, chafing and breathability, with a satisfactory result, but at the same time, we are also experts in these sectors and their products and we can assure you that a good product from a good outdoor brand designed for this sport works much better than ours. We must be honest and transparent in our answers and advice.
